Oude Purp is a barrel fermented oud bruin in the Flemish tradition, blended with young amber ale and refermented on an absurd quantity of blackberries. The barrels previously contained high end bourbon, and the beer was left to mature in them for over three years with native yeasts and bacteria. The final blend includes a small portion of barrel aged Baltic porter, and is composed from multiple vintages. Anticipate a deep violet liquid with several inches of pinkish purple head, a nose of dry cocoa, dark leather, raspberry balsamic, grape hard candy, and decaying oak, with an intense jammy berry sweetness, playful acidity, and an old world funk from the extensive time in barrels. Dynamic, oaken, and ancient. Oude Purp is already old, but it will continue to age gracefully in the cellar.
